Coaching Core Values: Helping Clients Clarify What They Actually Stand For

It happens all the time in coaching sessions.
A client feels stuck. Maybe they’re on the verge of a decision they can’t seem to make. Or they’re exhausted but can’t explain why. Or they’re doing all the “right” things—checking boxes, showing up—and yet something feels… hollow.
These are red flags that their core values are either unclear or unmet.
And as a coach? This is where your work gets transformative.
Because if your client is trying to design a fulfilling life without knowing what they truly stand for, they’re essentially trying to build a house without a blueprint.
Core Values Are the Blueprint
Core values are the structural framework—the quiet architecture—of a well-lived life.
They’re the internal standards that shape how your client defines meaning, sets priorities, and experiences satisfaction. When values are honored, your client feels aligned and anchored. When they’re violated—by a job, a relationship, or even their own habits—it can feel like trying to stand on a cracked foundation.
Your role as a coach is to help them clarify, claim, and construct around the blueprint that’s uniquely theirs. 🧱 🛠️
